Cocobolo Wall Art
This is the first project I have done that had no utilitarian use. It is simply a wall hanging made from a piece of cocobolo that had cracked along a growth ring, diving through the middle of the board. This is known as "ring shake" and it produced two beautifully irregular pieces with jagged, natural edges.
A client and I came up with the design which features inlaid Nakashima-style butterfly keys made out of curly maple. It is mounted to the wall on two sliding dovetails make out jatoba, also known as Brazillian cherry. The mounting pieces are hidden from view, so the piece seems to hover on the wall and creates beautiful shadow lines behind it.
